• Chat Section

From Hax0r@HAX0RQWK to All on Sunday, August 06, 2000 19:00:00
Is there anyway to have a user dropped into Multinode chat without going through the chat menu? The only baja function I could find on the topic was chat_section (there are some for paging, and provate chatting).

Chat_Section takes you to the chat menu, but I want to do the equivelent of J from that menu (without having to go through that menu).

    suggestions? help?

This there any plans, in future versions or synchronet, to make the chat section not hard coded? Or atleast more configurable? I would love to be able to add options to the / command prompt while in chat (instand log off, running other mods, for example.) If not unhardcoded, atleast moer configurable?

Also, are the CNTRL-K menu keys hard coded as well? Any plans to make them more configurable as well?

Definately like the other users ideas about trivia and other teleconfercing games.. Just chatting these days gets a bit bpring!

    Thanks.. Glenn (bbs.unknwn.com)

Don't be fooled, everybody! This HAS to be Tracker in disguise. He's been lusting over extended chat functions for awhile, and finally settled on some kludges, IIRC.

I promise you, I do knot know who Tracker is, but I guess if he couldn't get anywhere with it, neither will I. Maybe I'll write my own chat mod in baja. Think it could be done? :)

telnet here, and check out the chat section, totally modded, working
on the user actions next.. :)

As for ctrl-k keys, not sure if the text for ctrl-k is hardcoded,
you can add mods under the scfg->externals->hotkey events.

I have a lot of my defaults modded, including chat, drop in.. I will
give you some hints/help, but my mods are mine.. ;)

Not really kludges, just modded the multichat command string to
run a mod instead of the internal commands.

Not sure if Baja would do what I have done.. I did a LOT so far with
JS.. and have plans for more, any sysops are welcome to drop in in the evenings, I have most of the mods in place, and working on the extended
actions next.. will probably take a few days away from modding chat
to work on the system/config menus.. right now, I had to dissable
the user settings sections, so I can run my own config, that wasn't
    broke from my newuser mod.

Not sure about baja, but did mine in JS.. works really well, also,
objects added to say bbs.??? will maintain state through the user
    session, after logon...

I actually attach all the functions used by the "/" command mod in
chat to bbs.chat.????() so they don't have the load-time associated
with them, will also extend to custom entrance/exit messages for
the chat.. I have a lot of ideas.

The SyncChat wasn't half bad, except for a big laggy. Does anyone know if the author of that program is still around, or know if the source code is available?

I actually contacted Garry Dolley (the author of SyncChat) once. He flat-out refused to give up the source code (and I actually offered some good money for it at the time). He IS around-doing some Linux thingie/website. Do a search for Garry Dolley on Google.

    Later,

    Yes.

Also, are the CNTRL-K menu keys hard coded as well? Any plans to make them m configurable as well?

They are hard-coded, but can be over-ridden with global hot key events in v3.10 beta.
