From Dennis Collins@3:770/355 to All on Saturday, May 10, 2003 02:59:00
    greetings

I am looking for a fully automatic way (event from FrontDoor) to logon to my ISP and download selected usenet groups. This MUST be a DOS program as the bbs system does not have Windows or will ever have it installed. A fellow sysop mentioned that IREX could do this.... but could not tell me how it can be done the Irex docs also don't give any info on setting up for NNTP.
I tried NETTAMER but it does not support fully automatic operation and did also try NEWSGATE on the Internet system however this has the drawback that the bbs system then has to have network support to talk to the internet system, another software package that was tried was KA9Q but for some reason when I changed ISP's it refused to connect to port 119.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.

    thanx in advance

Look under the gating setup section. At the end, there's even a quick guide on
how to do various tasks, and setting up a newsgroup to gate is one of them. (This assumes you're using a fairly recent version of Rex.)

    Hi Dennis,

    About "usenet/NNTP" of May 10:

logon to my ISP and download selected usenet groups.

One more answer has arrived today which is related to your request: ________________________________________________________________________
I just read my copy of the Irex docs and it gives instructions for
how to connect to the internet using DOS and it also deals with NNTP servers in a section called "News Server". The docs are long (129
pages) and one needs PDF or Microsoft Word to be able to access them
    but the information is there.
