Last time I used BBS stuff I was using SyncTerm but I have to say Cool-Retro-Term seems to blow it out of the water presentationally.

    (Ubuntu:) sudo apt-get install cool-retro-term

Then just rightclick the main screen to begin configuring it. I like the DOS-like preset best but there are numerous presets to choose from and you can make your own with pretty much any monospace font and dial in whatever screen simulation you want!

CoolrRetroTerm is cool and I've used it and really liked it, but it seems more of a novelty than an every day utility.

... Hmm. I trust your expertise; is it lacking in features compared to SyncTERM or something? These graphics def. enhance the experience for me but if I'm missing out on capabilities I might reconsider.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall it having a "dialing directory", supporting scrollback or file transfers. It does look killer though.
